I'm Just Giving It All, Giving It All Away

**Disclaimer.  This post is about the holiday season.  It'll be the last of its kind until after Thanksgiving**

OHMYEVERLOVINGGOSH BLOGSTALKERS!

It is finally November 1st, which as every person knows and agrees unequivocally, is the beginning of Christmas.

I kicked a pumpkin today on my walk to Starbucks (they brought out the holiday cups!) just because I could.  I was like, "Get out of here PUMPKIN."

Don't worry, it was not a small child's adored gourd, it was on the ground by a dumpster and had already lived a long pumpkin life.

That did not stop people on the street from looking at me all funny.  Although that could have been because none of my winter coats fit me and so I was perhaps wearing a coat from the costume box.  (Ryan is taking me to a movie/Target for date night later and I swear to you that I will take a picture of myself wearing said coat and post it then.)

Anywho.  In celebration of the fact that it is now THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR, and in recognizance of the fact that I have not done a giveaway in quite some time, I thought today would be the perfect occasion to send some love and gratitude your way.

So here is what's up for grabs.

A mystery box of holiday goodness....That I promise I will not put in the mail until the day after Thanksgiving.  And I'll tailor it to your holiday needs.  So if you have small kids there'll be stuff for them.  And if you have no small kids there will probably be chocolates filled with alcohols.  And if you're Jewish or otherwise, like my Ryan husband, then I can totally swing that as well.  Basically I'll work with you to make this the best box you have ever received in the mail.**

**Unless someone ever sent you a huge box full of nothing but rolls of bubble wrap for your birthday when you were eight years old.  And your mom was like, "Be careful! Whatever is in there has got to be delicate if it's this protected!" And then, "Why is this just a box of bubble wrap?"  And then "Where has Lauren gotten to? I have not seen her in two hours." And then "LAUREN! Get down off of the top of there! I don't care if you are wrapped in duct tape and bubble wrap, you can still get hurt!"  And then, "It doesn't matter if she said that was the only thing she wanted for her birthday! She almost killed herself trying to jump off the top of the swing set today.  I'm unmaking you her Godfather.  You had to know she had some sort of ridiculous plan.  She's such a weird child...Oh crap I have to go."  And then, "Lauren, when I said weird on the phone just then, I meant GOOD weird."

If after hearing THAT gem of a story you're now worried I will just send you like, a box of glitter and an old copy of What To Expect When You're Expecting, I assure you that is not the case.  No two giveaways are the same but past winners have received things from the following places, among others: Kate Spade, Ugg, Tiffany's, Etsy, The Wine Store, RayBan, Scentsy, Dean & Deluca, and Amazon.  Plus one time I literally just sent someone a humongous cake in the mail.

So I promise it's worth it to enter.

A comment does that for you.

And while I'm not going to do the common extra entry for tweeting/sharing etc. this post, I will throw another entry your way if you send me, in any form on any social media application, a picture of you or yours getting into the holiday spirit.  I promise not to use it on this here blog unless you give me specific permission.  It doesn't have to be elaborate.  Wearing socks with penguins on them totally counts.  As does making an excited face and pointing to the window of Crate and Barrel because YAY! Christmas Trees!

So comment away.  And check back later for pictures of me being ridiculous probably.

And now back to your regular-non-Yuletide-programming until the end of the month.

Also, DUH LAUREN, I forgot to mention, I'll pick a winner a week from today.

**If this giveaway reaches more than 200 comments you'll have to click the "Load More" link at the very very bottom of this page to see yours, but I assure you, they are still posting!"

  1. I think I need to see the coat to feel the Christmas spirit! I have kids, but a box with my name on it is a box for ME. They get enough stuff, whereas I do not get enough alcohol. (I love them, but it is the truth.)

  2. It looks like I might be one of the first to comment... I just realized it's probably because you JUST posted this, and I swear I wasn't stalking you, it just happened to be good timing for me to check my blog feed.
Are you going to Target to buy a new coat, or are you going to continue wearing the coat from the costume box? (I'm fine with either, by the way - but you mentioned Target so now I'm curious.)
Happy start of the holidays! :)

    1. I ordered a new coat from somewhere online...I don't remember where...and I'm not sure when it'll get here...my brain is not full of working these days. Target is to get special detergent and baby hangers so I can wash and hang up baby clothes. We have to go after the movie because Ryan is afraid if I have those things before the movie I'll just make him go home so I can do that instead of the movie. It's a very exciting date night.

  4. My boyfriend told me today I have to wait until after Thanksgiving to put up a tree. That means at 11:59 on Thanksgiving, I'll have the ornaments out and ready... Enjoy date night!

    1. Ryan has the same rules. The tree'll be up early Black Friday morning for me. It used to be midnight on Thanksgiving but I haven't seen the wrong side of midnight in months now. Ten PM is officially the new "middle of the night" around here.

  22. I could totally use some happiness. I'm having a hard time remembering that tis the season for gratefullness. My boyfriend of 11 years proposed to me on our 11th anniversary and now we have a WEDDING to save for and plan and money is so tight and I literally cannot afford the gas to put in my car to get me to work and I have no clue how I'm going to make wedding money magically appear when I'm freaking out about even making a payment on my credit card bill.....which is crazy from when I lost my job a couple of years ago. I keep focusing on the fact that I am finally getting MARRIED after DECADES (ok just one) of waiting....and somehow everything works out and happens for a reason. So yes. I could use a bit of happiness.

  30. My exact fb status this morning was "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" It may have more to do with my birthday being in November than Christmas, but I still love both holidays and the last two months of the year are always the absolute best!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love Christmas! It's totally fine that we can talk about it. It's never to early for talks or making plans, me thinks. In my family, I have started the tradition of decorating on Black Friday instead of shopping. I'd much rather sleep in and decorate late into the night. I also have Christmas ornaments/decorations in my living room year round. I will send a collage via social media of one form or another various going ons. This year I am moving December 15th, so sadly I may not get time/energy to decorate for Christmas, but that won't stop me from loving the season!

  33. Christmas came early to Hobby Lobby. I know I don't look very excited, but my husband had the camera and, come on, Doug, it's not rocket surgery using a camera! I'm pretty sure the holidays would be way more exciting if everyone would get into wearing spiffy hats--especially if the hat was a reindeer head.

  35. I was thinking about putting up decorations early this year! Thanksgiving is so darn late.

I would love to get a box of surprises. I end up buying my own presents - which is nice that I get what I want - but little surprise involved!

I can't wait to see your coat!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Some of our stores have had Christmas decorations up for over a month now. Its odd seeing Halloween stuff right next to Christmas.

Also, I sadly cannot do much Yuletide decorating for Christmas this year. I have cats. Christmas and my cats do not mix.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My mom used to put up a special tree in our FANCY LIVING ROOM filled with vintage glass ornaments from my great-aunt. Then the cats would promptly bat them off the tree and break them. So ALAS she had to cut back on her decorating as well. It was kind of funny in that all the ornaments the felines broke were actually birds and so it was like, either these cats are really smart and are trying to hunt these birds or they are really dumb and don't that these birds are not alive.

      Delete
    2. My parents apparently put their Christmas trees in an old fashioned play-pen (the kind with the jail-bar sides) because of the cats. By the time I came along (fourth child) the whole tree was decorated in construction paper and pipe cleaner ornaments, and the "nice" ones were plastic, so it didn't matter if the whole tree came a-tumblin' down.

  41. oh Lauren Lauren Lauren I am old enough to be your mother & I am in a funk this year. Last year my adult children were all like can we celebrate Christmas on the morning of the 24th because we want to spend the actually day with out boyfriends/girlfriends. So there's that. All I want to do is go to Disney for Christmas instead I had to put a roof on the house & have bats removed from my attic, so no Disney only ungrateful kids that want the whole shebang without any of the clean up. Or I could just be in a funk because I'm slightly menopausal & we live in the land where the sun doesn't shine after October 1st.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ok first, boo to bats. Don't they know Halloween is OVER? It's like bats don't even understand how to appropriately celebrate the holidays and not TOTALLY OVERDO IT.

Also, if you ever get the chance to do the Disney thing around the holidays, I will say that NYE is pretty cool as well. The parks are open really late and ALL of the Christmas stuff is still up and running.

  48. Oh goodies!! I have a 9 year old daughter but I think she'd be equally happy with a box of bubble wrap and duct tape as you were. I mean have you seen all the new and colorful designer duct tape that is out now? Happy Holidays!! Season Greetings!

    ReplyDelete
  49. My mom puts up no less than 7 trees in her huge house at Christmas. I am not a decorator, so we have one little 4 foot tree. And I have children, so that makes me an awful parent I think. I just don't like to decorate for holidays I guess, although I will proudly display anything the kids have made for the holidays. Including the toilet paper roll tree my oldest made in school.

However, I DO enjoy presents and foods in the mail!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm excited about seeing your costume coat. I have to admit that I'm that Scroogey person who doesn't want to see/hear/smell Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I grew up not having Thanksgiving dinner so now that I'm married with white in-laws I finally get a delicious Thanksgiving meal. I don't like Christmas trying to steal Thanksgiving's belt-busting-pie-filled glory.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I live in Florida so we don't have seasons. I'm not complaining, but it is easy to forget that it is the holiday season so a holiday box from Lauren would be AWESOME!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am glad there is another "YAY it's CHRISTMAS!" on November 1st person out there in the universe. My spousal unit has PTSD from his mother, who had 3 storage units full of holiday decor, including a tree for each room and enough Christmas doo-dads to make it look like Santa's elves reigned down a jihad upon her house... it is MAGICAL! So when I suggest we acquire even one new holiday doo-dad a year, I get the Grinch-face.

I was so excited this morning when I got a holiday cup at Starbucks. I'm not a coffee person but I love hot chocolate and I get peppermint syrup added all year long just because I can. They probably think I'm weird but I don't care. I love Christmas. I love peppermint flavor in my hot chocolate. Plus, the syrup costs more so they should appreciate that I give them extra money all year long!

  57. That box of bubble wrap sounds like so much fun! Sadly, my dog seems to think my popping of the bubbles is akin to my being massacred by Bonnie and Clyde, so she has to pounce in and gnash them to death. Luckily, the one time my hand was in the way it was surrounded by said bubble wrap. (I promise she's a gentle dog who would normally choose the "licking suffocation" manslaughter route, but apparently bubble wrap opens a whole new can of worms with her.)
But happy November 1! Although if the recipient is Jewish like your Ryan-husband, shouldn't the package go out before Thanksmukkah? (I'm not Jewish, but I'm unreasonably excited about this combination. And I honestly don't have a tangible reason why.)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If the winner is Jewish then I can absolutely send the package out early as Hanukkah starts super early this year, you are correct. If I sent it out the day after Thanksgiving though it would totally still get there before the end of the holiday.

  58. I've been secretly listening to Christmas music all year and now that Halloween has kissed its self goodbye, I can SHOUT IT from the rooftops I LOVE CHRISTMAS MUSIC! The Jolly holidays are among us, and while I get ready to stuff my already chubby face full of sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving and prepare to purchase a way over priced plane ticket to see my crazy family for Christmas, I'll be gleefully listening to Michael Buble sing me Jingle Bells and have Celine Dion Feliz Navidad all day every darn day!

  59. Today, when I get home from work, I am going to put my "christmas card from Lauren...shes a blogger...no I dont know her presonally...she sent it because I asked for it...stop with the questions Brian!" on the fridge as a gentle reminder that it is officially the holiday season! Hooray! Happy Holidays!! Merry Christmas!!

OMGigglebits! My husband threatens to wrap me in duct tape and bubble wrap all the time, though if he knew I was secretly planning on testing said destructoproof wrapping, I'm sure he'd try ducttaping me and my wrap to a chair so I couldn't fall down some stairs or something. Though I could still probably manage to tip over and squish my pinkie finger or something. Then he'd feel bad.

My husband absolutely refuses to have anything Christmas-y in the house until December 1st ... which, as you all know, is much too far after Thanksgiving for my tastes. I'm all ... let's put up the fake Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. He's all ... we need to get a live Christmas tree and since we live in Florida and they don't last longer than two weeks we have to wait until mid-December. Bah Humbug! A box of holiday cheer sounds like a fantastic idea!

  88. I've been in the holiday spirit since Mid-October. The holiday season at my place of gainful employment is grueling, since I handle corporate gifts, as well as gifts for three busy executive-types. This year, it's smooth sailing, since I'm 75% done with my personal gifts. Bring it, November and December!

  89. Glad you're back posting more again... commenting for a chance at fun surprises!

  90. I will start listening to Christmas music today! I love the holiday season!

I work at Menard's and they have had the Christmas stuff up for over a month, so I THOUGHT I was getting Christmas-ed out. Then I saw this 2 days ago. http://www.menards.com/main/see-more/christmas/inflatables/led-lighted-synchronized-snowman-airblown/p-2085902-c-12292.htm It is 8 feet wide and 5 feet tall. It sings in a deep, manly voice and the mouth moves with the words. It would drive my next door neighbors crazy and my kids would love it. Win, win. I am so buying it!!! Christmas spirit restored. I would love a box of Christmasy goodness.

  92. I can see you doing Christmas the same way my aunt did many years ago. She was basically 40 weeks pregnant at Christmas, and the only dress she had that fit was an enormous emerald green maternity monstrosity. So she decided to just admit she was huge and roll with it. She wrapped a bunch of bead necklaces around her neck and made a glitter star for her head and came to Christmas dinner dressed as a Christmas tree.

    1. I like your aunt's style. I'll be about 38 weeks pregnant come Christmas so huge I will be indeed.

  100. Love giveaways!! Also, my niece once asked for a roll of bubble wrap for her birthday when she was 10. Of course I got it for her. She didn't try to jump off of anything after wrapping herself in it though, she just wanted to pop all the bubbles.

  101. YES!!! Christmas music is playing as I type this :) Super excited for this Christmas as my son is turning 1 this month and will be ready for tearing presents open this year!! Can't wait for you to get to enjoy the new wonders of Christmas with a wee one!!

    1. I can't wait either! Unfortunately it seems as if that'll be a next Christmas thing as I'll still be just under 38 weeks pregnant this year. And though it'd be lovely to have my small human around at yuletide, I do hope she remains an inside baby until she's good and done with the growing.

  102. GIMME A BOX OF STUFF! :) Preferably food stuffs... as I'm preggo, too, and hungry. Speaking of hungry... I think it's time to raid my kids' Halloween stashes. Yes, both of them. And thanks for the giveaway, btw.

  103. O.M.GOSH!!! I definitely gave my best friend a GIANT ROLL of bubble wrap for her birthday!... She was 24 and not 8... But it was still totally awesome! Plus when you are 24 you get to drive over said bubble wrap with your car. It is LOUD!

(There is a picture of the GIANT ROLL of bubble wrap and what we did with it after the car here:

I've only been reading you a short time, but I'm so glad I found your website! You are too funny. I laugh at my desk while reading your posts and get all sorts of weird looks. So I'm totally blaming you for the weird looks. Not my laugh like a donkey. That's adorable.

Oh! Pick me! I love your blog and this is the awesomest! I am SO with you! It was 8:00 this morning when my 6 year old said "they STILL have Halloween decorations out? does their boss even know this?" - I have totally trained him in the ways of Christmas Jedi!

Also - I'm Stephanie - stephanietaylor27 at hotmail dot com, not Anonymous - I just can't sign in properly. How would you even send something to Anonymous anyway?

  109. Under normal circumstances I would probably turn up my nose at this crazy thing called "holiday spirit" before the turkey day has come and gone. However, by the time December comes I will be blissfully round with munchkin number 1 (I believe we are due the same week Lauren!) so I am totally for celebrating as early as possible this year.

One major benefit of being very VERY round with child this year: It will give the Santa costume I plan to wear a new level of believability!

  110. You have the BEST blog!! I laugh so hard at work I get the "she must be off her rocker" look.

    P.S totally not sorry!

  112. I have been receiving texts/emails from my mom for the last 3 months with the exact amount of days before Christmas. However I think its more to freak me out on how many shopping days I have to get everyone a gift than her counting down :)

  113. I can't wait to see the coat.

I love the bubble wrap story. We gave my dad a giant roll of bubble wrap once. He just loves to pop it.

I'd be excited by a box full of glitter. And I could read What To Expect When You're Expecting and marvel at the miracle of life and be both sad and relieved that I'll never be pregnant. But I'm sure you would make an even better holiday box than that.

Did you start watching Doctor Who yet? If so, I'll send you a picture of me hanging my Tardis lights.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I would love a mystery box in the mail! My husband would probably tell me he sent it, as he has been known to use gifts my mom sent as his own. Also, he has given me library books as presents.....Sorry for the rambling comment! I can't wait til next year when you have a little cherub to enjoy the Christmas lights with!

  118. Ugh, maternity coats! I'm currently 22 weeks and live in Colorado so I HAVE to buy a coat soon. I returned the latest because my husband said, "that just looks like a big coat, not like a special coat made to keep your belly warm." So, for now I just use my regular coat and I look ridiculous. I feel like I'm wearing a half coat (similar to a half shirt). It's not cute. I'm sure some people think I pulled it out of a costume box :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Let's be honest, that pumpkin *totally* had it coming.

Also, my partner is horrific at buying me gifts (one year I got three trashy weekly magazines. I'm not even joking) So for this Christmas, I sent him a list of acceptable presents (adorable socks, shirts I want to buy, a list of books the size of my arm) & his response was 'But why would you want to limit my present giving!?'

    I don't even know anymore.

I'm so big on holiday spirit that I still have your Christmas card from last year on my fridge. I'm also behind on cleaning, but it's mostly holiday spirit.

  121. YAY AWESOME FREE STUFF!! I, too, do not have any coats that fit the 3rd trimester but thankfully Oregon winters are mild enough you can really get away without wearing one. Which I do, because I am a rebel. It'll be the dead of winter and I'm without a coat and my husband is in shorts... everything you've seen on Portlandia is true.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Hooray, holidays! I'll have to get a picture of the Christmas cross-stitch that I'm making for my mother in law, that's about as holidayed up as we're getting until we finish our move in a couple of weeks :)

  123. I walked into Wal-Mart last night at 8:45 pm and their Christmas section was nearly in full swing, to include music from under the Christmas tree display. I shared a mutual "ohmigoshcanyoubelievethis" with my husband, but I was secretly giddy inside. Then I bought $40 of Halloween candy all for myself at full price because I couldn't wait til midnight.

Hooray for Christmas!! I'm the type of mom who sits in front of her kids bedroom doors just waiting for it to be a sane hour to wake them on Christmas mornings. They are lucky if I let them sleep past 630. Also, they are only 4 and 1 and a half. So they really think I'm crazy. This year I can't wait cuz my son will have turned 5 and he will be so into it! Also, his is officially the beginning of my holiday bake fest, so look out coworkers, family and friends :) I love this time of year! Kelly S.

  129. I never get packages!! Literally never. When I was in college I had to beg my mother to send me my hair dryer when I forgot it at home at thanksgiving. (I have really weird hair. I was a necessity).
I would love to get a random box of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  130. It's the most wonderful time of the year! And I am trying to refrain from buying every fall/winter/holiday item from Target's threshold line. Also, Macys was playing Christmas music today and I liked it!!

  131. Yay Christmas!! I'll come up with a pic somehow. I love the holly-days :)

    ReplyDelete
  132. I would so, so, so love to win!
Except...The whole having kids and alcohol-filled chocolates should *never* be considered mutually exclusive, Lauren.
Last night I lightly spiked church Halloween carnival tea just to get through the evening. (I actually hardly ever drink, but I like to talk a big game so I sound way cooler than just some random Charleston chick who's slightly over 40 with 3 kids.) :)

  133. Today's my birthday, it's always been referred to as "the day after Halloween" but from now on it'll be the beginning of Christmas. Thanks for the new outlook!

  161. I'm so ridiculously excited about this giveaway. My kids are heading to their grandparents for the holidays, I'd love to find a grown up surprise in the mail for once! Not that the constant barrage of Christmas toys I've ordered off of Amazon aren't awesome, it's just not as much fun to think about all the lego's I'll be stepping on as it is to think about booze and chocolate.

  162. I'm a little worried that my winter coat fit me all through my pregnancies....not like I needed it anyway. Both fetuses (feti?) radiated a ridiculous amount of heat and I spent two Minnesota winters waddling around in below-zero weather with my parka unzipped. But boxes! Of stuff! I still get a little excited about the packages I get at work, even though they don't contain anything fun. Unless you find agar and sheep blood fun.

  165. I am totally on board with the Christmas excitement. I love the decorating and songs and movies and people seeming happier, nicer, and a little more generous. I do get stressed about having to buy gifts for my kids... especially since they are older now and less impressed with smaller things, but it's still a wonderful fantastical time of the year. =D
