Ch-Ch-Changes

Hey Blogstalkers.

This'll be a quickie as I am still in the 'depths of despair' morning sickness-wise.  I love the crap out of this baby but it certainly can be cantankerous.  Oh well.  Like Father Like Fetus I suppose.

So first and foremost, I just wanted to take a quick moment and finally finally announce the winner of the Origami Owl Giveaway.  Congratulations are in order for Southern Girl!  If that is you just shoot an email to LaurenRaeGallagher@gmail.com and I'll put you in touch with Lauren C. who ran the giveaway and has been nothing but supportive and amazing the last couple of weeks.

If you didn't win you still have the opportunity to procure yourself something lovely at a 15% discount through this weekend if you order through Lauren's Direct Site.  She will be posting the discount code details on her Origami Owl Facebook Page sometime soon so if you entered the giveaway by "Liking" her page you should see it!

Thirdly, THANK YOU all for your understanding and patience the last couple of weeks.  I so appreciate all of the sweet messages and emails and comments.  THANK YOU for not hating my baby-growing guts for basically disappearing off the face of the blogosphere.

Lastly,  I've been giving a lot of thought to how me being pregnant/having a child are going to change this blog.  I initially wanted to keep all of the baby/mommy stuff off of my site but it turns out it's really difficult to think about anything else right about now.  So I'm probably going to write about it and while I'm at it I'm probably going to start blogging about other topics like cooking and giveaways and whatever else I come up with here as well.  To do that,  I'm looking into a redesign that would incorporate a number of pages so you all could pick and choose what you want to read and what you want to skip like crazy.  (The main page will have all entries in all categories in order of how they were written so if you actually want to read everything you don't have to jump around.)

And no worries, I promise almost every single entry will be written with grace and ablomp my normal humorous slant on life.  And the majority of the site will still be a collection of entries about things like Five Things Friday - My Five Favorite Road Trip Games, alternatively titled, Why Ryan Doesn't Go On Road Trips With Lauren Ever and How Vanessa tried to be a really good friend last week and take me to get a pedicure because I was feeling sallow and worthless and how I was so tired I accidentally sat in the water part of the chair instead of the chair part of the chair.

So hopefully this change won't scare everyone away.  I actually feel like it'll benefit the humor aspect of the blog because I won't feel so much pressure (not from you, from myself) to wake up on certain days and BE FUNNY RIGHT NOW.  Feel free to make suggestions or ask questions in the comments section, I should be at the computer to respond for a while.

Oh also, turns out today is my second Blogiversary!?  In celebration I am wearing a long skirt as a strapless dress because my washing machine is broken.  Or it could be at least.  I don't know, I haven't checked on it in a while.

P.S. I had to make the change to moderating comments because of copious amounts of SPAM.  So if you don't see your comment pop up immediately that is why.  I'll try to channel Speedy Gonzalez as far as moderating goes.

    1. No need to worry! Everything is fine and dandy. Or at least fine and dandy-ish.

  2. Your last line made me snort my coffee! I'm about to go buy a new shirt to wear to a party at my husband's work tonight because I haven't done laundry in so long. And I'm not even growing a baby inside! I, for one, am super excited that you'll be blogging about the little one though. Happy Blogiversary!!

    1. Thanks ROS! And yeah, I've totally done the 'buy a new outfit' thing for a party before because of laundry issues.

  3. Will there be a page that just has everything on it so that we can go to one place for all the updates? I wouldn't want to skip anything written by you.

    1. Oh yeah totally, what I am thinking is that the main page of the site will be everything but the pages at the top will help those who are sick of me talking about babies and crap skip right to what they like.

    2. Okay, AWESOME. Sounds like a good deal and I look forward to seeing more.

I hope you feel better soon. Say, within 6 months or so at the most?

I was starting to get worried about you! I read another blog & it totally felt like I was cheating on you. LOL!! I think the skirt as a dress look was coming back anyway. - Kristen

    1. Ha! And I certainly hope so, I have a number of long skirts from when I wanted to wear skirts but didn't want to shave my legs all that often. My husband is one lucky guy.

  5. "Shut the fucupcakes"...love it & think I will have to use it! LOVE the new blog idea as long as you have a section devoted to cheese, glorious cheese~ btw~are you able to eat cheese yet or did you just shoot daggers at me??? Keep cooking....

    1. Not a whole lot of cheese YET but I did have pizza the other night so that was a step in the right direction. Or wrong direction if you are my doctor. (I also ate an apple Dr. Newton! - I eat one a day. Mostly to keep you and your nutrition rules away.)

So good to hear from you! Hope you have more feeling- better days than icky ones.
And you rock that skirt- as- a- dress, girl. Werk.

  7. I love you and your blog and I'd love to read about baby and more! My only pet peeve is when blogs are separated out into different sections. I much prefer for all the stories / entries together in one place and read them in order. I guess maybe recipes in a separate section would work though. To be honest you could set it out any way at all and I'd still read as I love your blog!! Hope the baby stops making you puke soon :)

    1. I'm not a huge fan of that either so I'm trying to devise a way around it. I'd like to keep the main page just each entry in order as it is written for people that actually want to read everything or most things and then have the pages at the top so specific categories can be skipped at the reader's whim.

    2. That would be the perfect blend. It would be good to be able to jump to a specific post/group of posts, but to also still have them come up in your blog in order :)

A note from Professor Half-Full: I have a friend who is desperately allergic to all things dairy. Not lactose-intolerant, ALLERGIC. Like Epi-pen allergic. But when she was pregnant she could eat all the cheese she wanted with no life-threatening repurcusions. One can only hope.

    1. Well that is just awesome. I ate pizza the other day and then got sick but that could be just a normal morning sickness thing and not a cheese-related thing...fingers crossed.

    2. How does one safely test the theory that life threatening items are not life threatening during pregnancy?! I am perplexed by this, and yet intrigued.

    3. Huh. I feel like I should have thought about that Heather. But I was sidetracked by the cheese.

  9. I know I'm a little late to the party to offer up my "Fu'yeah - BABY ON BOARD, BABY!" congratulations, but I've been busy redecorating under my rock. A truly heartfelt congrats to you and Ryan! And to OJ, who I'm sure somehow had something to do with it, but not in a creepy way, but more like a "I'm so bonded to you guys this baby's gonna magically have some of my DNA too" kind of way. You know, like River Song is part Time Lord because she was conceived on the TARDIS. Yeah, like that. (Oops, is my nerd showing?)

    1. Thanks Leslie! And yeah...OJ has already made some comments about the baby coming out with OJ-colored skin, which I can assure you most assuredly will not happen.

  10. Well I certainly miss you Lauren, but I also know just how ducky being pregnant can be. Just rest up and start sharing baby room ideas. I have to live vicariously through someone.

  11. Hey! Lookie here, I got TWO CENTS! So. This blog is meant to be about your life. And your life includes Ryan, and cooking things, and your crazy dogs, AND your fetus (who at some point during gestation totally has a tail. Science.) So write it all. Even though I suck at cooking, I like reading your recipe posts because sometimes you quote The Little Mermaid and need bandaids. You with a baby is going to be a joyous comedy of errors, I have no doubt. Bring. It. On.

    1. It's a true story about the tail. It's gone now but I did tape a tail to a green olive one week to explain to Ryan the size of the baby. He was not impressed.

  12. I highly recommend using the categories in your navigation, it's how I do mine and it's nice to know people can jump to whatever section they want. Though I'm pretty sure I should just put one up called "dogs" and take everything else down and people would be pretty okay with it.

I'm glad you're making changes that will work for you (duh, it's your blog). Also, I'm happy to hear the pregnancy is going well despite being pukey. We'll know it's truly Ryan's baby (as in, genetically more like him, not as in his or the milkmans. I am not calling you a whore) if at some point you can only eat meals with meat involved.

Also, sorry if you just threw up because of the word meat. Stupid horomones.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah meat is NOT MY FRIEND right now. I can't even go to the grocery store because it smells like meat and I'm certainly not eating it.

I'm having the designer that did my blog the first time around make some changes but really just sorting things into categories and not like...creating a bunch of different pages a la Pioneer Woman.

  13. I feel so selfish for having missed you and your blog. I tried to find other blogs to read but they just weren't the same. As long as the baby likes Christmas because we have a caroling trip to plan.

    1. Oh don't feel selfish! I like being missed!

And though I'm fairly certain the baby will not be making its grand entrance until after Christmas (I'm due 2 weeks later) I can assure you I will do everything in my power to make this child a tiny Christmas elf in coming years. And even though I shall be approximately 8.5 months pregnant I also promise to at least make a marvelous attempt at dressing up once again.

  14. Glad to see that you are still with us but I'm super sorry about the morning sickness. Not that I have any proof of it but my mother was super sick with me and I turned out to be the REALLY smart kid and I thought I was done baking early so I was two months premature so the morning sickness ended sooner than she anticipated. She wasn't sick at all with my brother and he's great too, slept all through the night and stuff early. Wait scratch what I said earlier. You could have a really smart baby who is a smart alec if the sick stays with you. And yeah I won, too tickled.

Yay for baby stories! I love to hear about anything pregnancy and baby-related.

    (I love that velociraptor joke.)

  16. Welcome back! I'm glad you've decided to include Baby in your blog. As a fellow pregnant person, I understand completely how baby has already become a huge part of your life and when asked "how are you?" or "what's new?" your mind automatically goes to baby. Besides, I'm sure you are approaching Baby with the same funny and fun attitude that all of us come here to share anyway, so it's just more of the good stuff! Hope you're feeling well!

  17. It is near impossible for your before baby blog to NOT contain baby posts because hello babies are awesome! I hope you feel better soon. I had horrible morning sickness until 16 weeks when I just woke up one day and it was gone. Ironic because the previous week someone had told me one day my morning sickness would just disappear and I called them a liar liar-face and kicked them in the shin .. then puked. Please don't kick me when I say, it will most likely just disappear one day. I can't wait to read more about your pregnancy and baby!

  18. I feel terrible for you that you feel so bad, hon, but thankfully you know it will have an end with a healthy baby. Still probably not much comfort, though, you can punch me.

I would love to know what format you decide and if it's complicated to do it, as a fellow blogger in the trenches. I've thought about doing that, too, but worried it could be expensive!

    XOXO

Just casting my vote with the masses - section off if you will, but I don't think it's necessary at all! I miss the more frequent posting but am glad you are taking the time for yourself and the growing babeling!

  20. I'm so looking forward to funny pregnancy and baby stories! Do you read Cup of Jo? I like her Motherhood Mondays - it's nice to know when to expect baby-related posts and keeps the blog diverse. (I'm one of those jealous single people and get too sad when every single post features a ridiculously cute baby who isn't mine, haha!) I love your humor and honesty :) Thanks for writing!!!

  21. Just really glad that you are ok! (well, as ok as a all consuming fetus who is basically eating you from the inside can be. I've been there. It is hard and sucks and is SO worth it!) Lot's of prayers for future feeling better!

  22. All of this sounds awesome! Okay, not the whole "I'm puking up stuff" part, but the rest of it sounds great! :)

  24. Just started following your blog last week but really glad to see you back. Sorry you took a long trip to puke city - that stinks! Guess I just wanted to say that I'm sure your changes will be fine and the best blogs and writers always write about things that are personal so I don't really see how you could continue blogging WITHOUT talking about your current sitcheeashun. Clearly you are loved (and read) by many. I doubt a few changes here or there are going to change any of that. Good luck and keep feeling better!

I will be excited whatever you blog about, as long as you continue to blog!! I love when I am having a crappy day and can come here, and you always make me laugh. Its like breaking the ice and I always feel better after that. I am so excited for you and can't wait to see the crazy things motherhood brings for you!! :)
