Too Excited To Think Up Title

Hey Blogstalkers!

I do not normally post too often on Tuesdays but something just happened about which I must tell you right this minute before I become too overcome with shrieks and flails and fainting fits to be coherent.

Ryan recently got home from work and came up to my office and was all "Pack your bags Lauren!" And I was like, "You can't get rid of me that easily!" and "No way, you pack YOUR bags!"  And then he just sighed and walked away for a while and I thought, "Well I just won THAT conversation."

But then about ten minutes later I heard his feet on the stairs again.

Ryan: You know how you've been wanting to go on a trip, just the two of us?

Lauren: I do.

Ryan: Ok so you're actually going to have to go and pack your bags now because I've booked us a surprise vacation.  We're leaving early Thursday morning.

Lauren: You booked us a Valentine's Day trip!?

Ryan: Huh, well actually I forgot that it was Valentine's Day...that explains why the hotel kept asking things like, "Do you want us to leave rose petals in your room?" and "Would you like us to send up some champagne?"

Lauren: What did you tell them?

Ryan: I said No, I'm coming with my wife so none of that will be necessary.

Lauren: Oh you're just hilarious.

Ryan: The guy on the phone laughed.

Lauren: Ok so where are we going and for how long?

Ryan: Nope, not telling, it's a complete surprise.

Lauren: You have to tell me!  How will I know what type of clothes to bring?  Are we leaving on a jet plane?

Ryan: Just pack for somewhere warm.

So then I hopped up and ran excitedly downstairs and started trying to figure out how on earth to go about putting a bag together.  But I'm actually really terrible with surprises because I like to be prepared for all eventualities so it was really difficult.  I just kept shouting up the stairs, "I'm terrified I'm not going to bring the appropriate hats!" and "Should I pack a ball gown just in case?" and "If you won't even tell me how long we'll be gone how on earth am I to know how many books to bring?"

Until an exasperated Ryan finally came into the bedroom and saw the worry and excitement mixed on my face and was just like, "I forgot how bad you are with surprises.  We're going to Disney World.  Coming back Sunday."

I have the best husband ever. (In my own slightly-biased opinion.)

If you'll excuse me now I have to be off to finish laundry and packing and making a Disney playlist for the plane.

(Also, thank goodness he broke down and told me where we are going.  I never would have thought to break out the costume box otherwise.  And I definitely would have forgotten my Mickey shoes.)

Um, so anyway, all of this is just to say that I have a million things to do tomorrow that I thought I had all weekend to do, so I won't have time to post.  But hopefully I'll get a third post up this week from Orlando!  Probably wearing a Hogwarts robe.

Has anyone ever surprise-vacationed you before Blogstalkers?

(If I'm being honest, this is actually my second surprise trip since my BFF Vanessa and my sister Jordan also flew me to Orlando last minute for a pre-Bachelorette party.)

I seriously can not wait to get Ryan drunk on German Epcot Beer and make him pose like a moose.  Then I will have moose pictures of all of my favorite people.  And who else can say that?

  4. My hubby surprised me once before. He even talked to my boss to get me the time off work and I was clueless. He booked spa packages for me at the hotel, fancy dinner reservations, tickets to a show, even chocolate strawberries and champagne in the room! It was the best <3

  9. This is THE BEST. You two are THE BEST. DISNEYLAND/WORLD IS THE BEST. I've never been to the World, but I practically grew up at Disneyland (and survived adolescence and celebrated adulthood). I have an undying love for Disneyland that instantly transforms me into a bouncy 5-year-old as soon as we get to the parking garage. My boyfriend and I didn't get to go as often as we liked once we moved to Seattle, but we still managed to go a couple of times, and because we're missing their wedding while we're in Korea, we (completely unselfishly) took two lovely friends for their first time before we left the country. I Win-win! Alas, no surprise trips have ever been bestowed unto lowly me, but I DID help another lovely man surprise his lady with a trip to Disneyland, where he then proposed! It was insanely adorable/jealousy-inspiring. HAVE SO MUCH FUN!

  10. So jeal!! I've never been to Disney World, only Disneyland. But I've beent here a bazillion times (as I grew up less than an hour from there and whenever anyone came in from out of town, my parents packed us all up and we showed them Disneyland. How awesome is that??) Anyway have fun!!

  11. DeDe (again) hogging the comments with my own stories.2/12/2013

ok, i just read Kait's comment up there and we have similar stories even the part about living in SEATTLE! how crazy is that? We took our kids to Disneyland for the first time last April (it was my first time back in almost 20 years!) Most bestest trip ever because my parents and both my sisters and their kids went with us. It was almos like when we were kids (except we were missing our brothers.) Best part was when my mom teared up as we went through Small World because she said when we were kids she dreamed of the day she would be at Disneyland with us and OUR kids and we made her dream come true that day....

  12. Just remember, go left to right! Most people go right to left. Cleanest bathrooms at Magic Kingdom are next to Pirates of the Caribbean (see previous comment) Get seats at the dessert fireworks event on the right of the entrance to Tomorrowland to see the fireworks and watch Tinkerbell fly and land over your head! Frozen butterbeer is better than regular. The shepherd's pie is ok but the roast chicken is fantastic at The Three Broomsticks. See when the Jammitors (street performers) are playing when you're at EPCOT. It's food and wine festival time at EPCOT!! So much fun!!

  13. I'm excited for you and how much fun you're both going to have but remembering back on your honeymoon post I think it was, with the zip-lining and stuff, I have to say I'm more excited for the follow-up posts because that honeymoon post was one of my favorite posts I've ever read and this comment may be one of the longest run-on comments I've ever left. Have fun, stay safe and yayy for hubbies getting drunk off German Epcot beer and posing like a moose!!!

  20. Yay for you! Surprise vacations are the absolute best. My husband surprised me on our 10th anniversary with a trip to Riviera Maya. Thankfully he told me about it about 2 months in advance so I could get bathing suit ready (not that he would've minded--he just knew I would want a little time to prepare). It was by far the biggest surprise of my life and we had a fabulous time!

I'm green with envy, because I haven't yet experienced The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Can you, pretty please with a cherry on top, post a picture on FB and tag me in it like I'm there? Like, with a butterbeer in your hand?

Have a wonderful time, Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!!

Hooray!! If you do end up making it to Islands of Adventure, the best time to head into the Harry Potter area is either first thing when the park opens, or late afternoon/evening. It can get really crowded otherwise. Although you are coming in the off-season, so you might be good no matter when you go. Hope you have fun!

  31. I seriously think we must somehow be related because I too love Disney, would totally buy a Pony Danza (but settle for my Van Gogh action figure complete with easel and palette), and was with my husband since high school (we got married on the 7th anniversary of our first date). Reading your blog is like remembering my life before I had kids! Love it all!

  43. I recently moved to Disney ( I live in the Disney town called Celebration) my sister planned a surprise trip for her and my niece to visit me. I didn't have a clue (ok I had a feeling and a giant hope it was going to happen) We played for 4 days at the parks and my niece hated the little kid rides and couldn't get enough of Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain Railroad. However she did HATE my favorite ride of all time Tower of Terror....One day I am going to head over and see how many times I can ride ToT in 1 day before I 1. Puke 2. Start Crying 3. Die.

And by die, I mean die of pure excitement and joy!
