To Celebrate - One Very Classy Sponsored Giveaway and One That Lauren Made Up

Hey Blogstalkers.  If you stalk me on FB then you may have seen that I posted yesterday that my last-final-never-coming-back-eat-my-dust-accounting day at work has been officially set for one week from today.  Five more days of work.  Then time to get to work on making this blog not suck any longer.

Until then I'm really really busy trying to tie up loose ends and explain to my boss that yes it looks like I booked a "Vag Accrual" journal entry in both March and May, but really that was me just misspelling "Vac" which is how I spell vacation when I am being lazy, so he can stop accusing me of inappropriate-book-cooking.

Also, what is an appropriate way to cook the books ALAN?

So posting will be light in the coming week.  But I will make up for it with some seriously heavy fricking posting after that.  For all the days of my life.  Or for one year until Ryan makes me go back to work.  Whichever comes first.

Anywho, seeing as how I get to celebrate this transition in style next Thursday immediately following work because Ryan is taking me out to dinner at a very fancy place that he has yet to book because he doesn't know we are doing this yet, I thought I would give you all a bit of chance to celebrate that day as well.

So when Olivier at Ode a la Rose contacted me offering to giveaway a dozen of some seriously gorgeous flowers, I jumped at the opportunity.  I got especially excited after I visited their site and read their story.   Olivier and Louis, the founders of Ode a la Rose recently quit their serious-big-time jobs in an Investment Bank to follow their dream.

Just like me Blogstalkers!! Except my job was probably a little less serious seeing as I had many a conversation about things like "how the song Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus is not even remotely plausible as an in-real-life story," and "to answer your question, I am eating my cottage cheese with chopsticks because I am too lazy to go back to the kitchen for a spoon and I always have chopsticks in my purse in case an errant piece of sushi wanders into my day."

Red Roses are Nature's Rubies, I always say to Ryan.
Ode a la Rose is unique in that all of the flowers are individually chosen and hand-tied into gorgeous bouquets, bringing the elegance of Paris (from where Olivier and Louis hail) to New York.  Plus the box they come in is just downright adorable.

They only deliver to New York City at the moment (which is very sad to me because roses would be a lovely accompaniment to next Thursday night's celebration dinner), but their website says they're looking to expand to deliveries all over the US in just a few months. (ahem RYAN.)

For a chance to have one dozen roses delivered to you or a loved one, just leave a comment below.  I'll close the giveaway at 7pm CST next Thursday, right after I finish dancing a celebratory pants-less jig on top of my never-to-be-worn-again boring work pants.  (You are welcome for the mental picture.)

Since the roses can only be sent to someone in NYC and I know there are lots of you out there who don't live in NYC and maybe don't have loved ones there either, I'm going to add my own little giveaway to this post too.  Champagne and chocolates to anyone anywhere in the US.  So one of you can sip some bubbly and nibble on some nougat and help me ring in the Year of Lauren (like the Summer of George from Seinfeld but with more sweatpants.)

So in your comment make sure you note if you'd like to be entered to win both giveaways or just the one that will get you drunk.

And seriously check out the Ode a la Rose site.  These guys are funny and inspiring and their flowers speak for themselves.

Roses are pretty.  Just like you.   - Ode a la Rose.

I can't wait for this adventure to begin Blogstalkers, celebrate with me?

::Also Jayne asked in the comments how I was planning to send champagne in the mail, since it's illegal in the states.  I want to reassure you all that I will not be breaking any rules.  I will be shipping through a "luxury" retailer that I've used before when out of town friends get engaged and such.::

You'll be fabulous! (Well, you already are, but fabulous-er!) Best of luck and I'm looking forward to your journey!

I love flowers, but I'm not in NY. :( However, I could do some champagne and chocolate, should luck come my way.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  5. I would very much like to be drunk in celebration!

And since I haven't commented on your new adventure I shall do so now!
I'm so very happy for you! Your blog makes me giggle every time and brightens my day! You will be amazing!!

  6. I am already drunk! Does this count? I think it should.

Also, I'm using you as an excuse to Sean to explain why I should be able to stop working and blog full time. ("She's totally my Blog-Soulmate, honey. You don't want lauren to have to do this ALONE do you?!") He isn't buying into it yet, but he will... oh yes, he will!

Anyhow, I can write you an essay as to why I should win. Because I'm drunk and feeling sassy. Do you want me to? Because I will.

  7. Yummmm....chocolate strawberries! Something I can no longer afford on my wedding budget :( but yeah for next Thursday!

  8. If someone wants to lend me their NYC penthouse, I'd gladly accept and take the roses. Until then, I'd love to get drunk on some bubbly! I've got my sweatpants ready, the ones with the expandable waist - perfect for eating chocolate.

Can't wait to read all of the upcoming posts.

  9. Since I am so super happy for you I think it's only appropriate that I drink some bubbly, so sign me up for your giveaway, please.

Now I want some wine. Call it the pre-game. :)

  10. I would like to be entered in both because although I no longer live in New York, I'm sure I can find a loved one to send them to! AND I LOVE their box!!!! Also, if Ryan takes you to NYC for your dinner, I'll have then sent to you at the restaurant. Love, OL

  15. I would love to get drunk off your happiness! Perhaps after a bottle of bubbly, I'll be inspired to follow in your footsteps and start my own blog.

Please enter me for both contests; if I win the roses, I will send them to a good friend who's single in NYC and totally deserves them (she's also an aspiring writer).

Looking forward to seeing where life will take you next!

I don't live in NYC (though I grew up very close to NYC) I would like to be entered in the "chocolates and champagne" giveaway, please, so that I may toast the Year of Lauren in a lavishly appropriate way.

  22. Melody8/09/2012

I would like to get drunk, but I would also be delighted to wait several months until the nationwide shipping is set up and then, when I least expect it, and probably most need it, BAM! Rosed. It would be like having something to look forward to every day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hopefully yours won't turn out as badly as the Summer of George. Didn't he end up so lazy he had to be hospitalized? I would like to be entered in the champagne and chocolates giveaway because I don't live in NYC or know anyone there. I am sure winning the champagne and chocolates would be enough to console me, though.

    ReplyDelete
  24. BOTH !!! Don't make me drink the roses.

    ReplyDelete
  25. a) I want to be drunk.

    b) I once worked for someone who had such bad handwriting that every single person in our office thought he had written "give enemas" instead of "open invoices."

    ReplyDelete
  26. Great giveaway... Except for west coasters who have to settle for chocolates and champagne.. Wait what am I saying?? I totes need chocolate and champagne these days. Would make me feel like a Housewives of Seattle character. Sign me up!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Since I live in Colorado I can only enter for the chocolate and champagne...which is totes fine by me :) although those roses are BEAUTIFUL!! but I can still settle for getting drunk and drunkenly facebooking for a few hours :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mmm... Champagne... Also my sister lives in NYC so can I enter that giveaway for her?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'd love the roses, but alas, TX is not NYC so I'm out on that one (unless OJ wants to bring them to me in Dallas after he visits you this weekend!). But champagne and chocolates sound like a pretty damn good consolation prize, so sign me up for that giveaway, please! However, not to rain on the parade, but isn't it illegal to ship booze?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ahhh except I just remembered that you're in Chicago so you can't even get the roses there to send with OJ, so there goes that plan. Darn it!

  30. BOTH since i have a sweet friend in NYC that could use a bouquet of roses; she is hosting a group of us from Georgia this winter for a couple of days! XO

  31. Just the champagne and chocolates giveaway for me!

    ReplyDelete
  32. First, Congratulations! Well done. And I have to add that in the week you loose your job (by design) I actually start a new one and so that lovely accounting karma has done its thing.

There, now down to business, as much as I would prefer roses (It is my middle name) I am nowhere near the big apple, so I must make due with entering the boozy giveaway... but champers is a lovely treat, so that would be good too. And dude can't drink any so I would get it all to myself.

Hope this is the beginning of a really great time in your life, and that you enjoy every minute.

"...Ryan is taking me out to dinner at a very fancy place that he has yet to book because he doesn't know we are doing this yet..."

My favorite part of the entire post because I do this to my husband all the time. I'm forever inventing reasons to celebrate, then feigning surprise when he has no idea what I'm talking about.

Me: If we're going to go out for fondue this weekend, you should probably make a reservation now. The Melting Pot does tend to book up fast you know.
Husband: We're going to the Melting Pot this weekend?
Me: Ofcourseweare! It's the last weekend of the Olympics!!!!
    Husband: ???

So yeah. Right there with you.

  34. What about us Canuck fans?
For those who don't know what that means, it's short for Canadian...although it makes no sense just like being called a Yank short for an American. (Although your politicians seem to be doing lots of 'yanking' around according to your papers.)
I would loooove chocolate especially since I'm not supposed to have any, just like you and cheese.
Congrats on the change, I did the same thing a month ago and it's been great!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lauren I'm so excited for you!!! Send some champagne and chocolates our way and we will toast you California style! :)

  36. I live in San Diego, so no flowers for me, but I would love to get drunk please. Because I just haven't drank enough tonight during the football game. Am I even making sense anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  37. i can't believe you're judging George that way!! i'm sure he wore lots of sweatpants... he seems like that type of guy... enjoy the YEAR OF LAUREN (it needs caps).

please don't enter me for giveaways as i am sadly not in NYC and cannot currently consume champange. see, i'm soooooo generous

    ReplyDelete
  38. My best friend is moving to NYC in a couple weeks. If they can wait that long, I'd love to have some delivered to her for a homecoming.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I for reals need to win the boozy prize. I seriously put in my notice at work on the same day as you! I am leaving a secure job to pursue one that I've never done before but sounds way more interesting. I saw your post that you were following your dream and it felt so good to know I wasn't the only crazy one! In conclusion, I totes need to win a prize that has a drunk disclaimer attached to it, because chocolates and bubbles from you would make me feel like we're celebrating together (ok that sounds a little creepy) and it would help to reduce the stress factor some.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would love to be entered in both because I have a cousin in NYC (she lives in one of the boroughs but works in Manhattan if that's ok. Anyway, IF i win the other one, I would love it if you and Ryan drank the champagne to celebrate (or have it all to yourself) since I don't drink, but I loooooooove chocolate!! How cool to think of the other 99.999999% of us that don't live in NYC! Thanks, gal! I'm so happy for you!, I'll buy anything you sell (like your first published work) so you can stay home......with the babies RYAN.

  41. I can eat some chocolates and drink some champagne for you, if you REALLY need me to, that is. I totally love your blog and refer friends to it whenever possible. Smooches, dear.

  42. Hallo Lauren, I am so happy that you're able to write and eat cheese full-time. I happily look forward to reading about your future endeavors. Since I cannot be Sex in the City and make up a NY City address I shall instead enter myself for your offer of chocolates. The champagne will go wonderfully with the high heels I never wear out of the house.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I definitely need a Ryan or more money saved up because I'm totally jealous of you getting the next year to pursue your dreams. Good luck and I hope you have a fantastic year.

  47. I would love to be entered for the roses. I don't live in New York, but I have a great uncle (in both senses of the word) who would totally get a kick out of roses.

  48. I am so excited for you to begin your new adventure! I would enjoy getting drunk on your champagne... Alas, if I am not the winner, rest assured, I will open a bottle of persecco left over from our wedding reception and toast to The Year of Lauren... XO

  49. Ode a la Lauren (A Poem. AHEM.)

(Please excuse the shoddy, reaching rhyme-work)

    Lauren, dear Lauren,
    Your blog dreams you're obtaining!
I'd love to celebrate with you
    By chocolate-ing and champagne-ing,

(Don't worry, I know those are nouns,
    The verbing trick's called anthimeria)
And you know ALL your blogstalkers love you
Like Ryan promised to when he married ya.

I don't live in New York
So alas, Ode a la Rose is out,
But your blog comes up roses itself
    so I could never pout.

But I'd love to nibble chocolates
    and raise a fluted glass,
    get bubble-drunk like a lady,
    and toast a kick-ass lass:

An Ode a la Rose would be lovely and sweet,
Some sugar and champagne would do nicely,
An Ode a la Lauren is what would be best,
And that's what I write, precisely.

    TADA!

So proud of you, so thrilled for you, and when I need a reminder to just keep swimming, I know I always have your blog and your encouraging words to turn to. Go get 'em, tiger.

    Bloglove, Kait

Now since you are doing this, I feel as though I should get my butt back in gear and work on my blog...I just get so distracted by the Syfy channel and the ferrets and cheese (I live in WI cheese is just every where)
I hope your dinner was absolutely lovely...
And please Please PLEASE enter me in the give away that will let me get drunk. Maybe I write better with champagne...in fact I KNOW I write better with champagne!
    Have a lovely week sweetie!

  52. So, I found you thru the Bloggess. I enjoy your adventures. I would like to be entered into the champagne one because I don't know anyone living in NY. And also I am umemployed (and looking for a job) and it would really cheer me up. And my birthday is on Monday. So.....yeah, thanks for considering me. Can't wait to see what hijinks you get up to now. lol

  53. Oh-ho. This will be fun. I'd liked to be entered for the bubbly. And you never answered my questions on accounting @.@

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alas, by virtue of living not in the US, I shall content myself to imagine sipping champagne and eating chocolates with a big bouquet of roses next to me. Way to win both contests, imaginary self!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'd like to enter both giveaways, please. I don't live in NY, but I have a great friend who does, and roses would be a lovely surprise!

  56. As a Southern Hemisphere dweller, I'm out as far as the competitions go, but I wish you all the best for your non-accounting new year! As someone who has to continue cooking the books for the foreseeable future, I'm incredibly jealous!

  57. Pick me for the booze and chocolate! I work from home and my two heathen children have been driving me crazy this summer! They go back to school soon and I'll use the champagne to co-celebrate your new endeavor and my new sanity! Plus, I'm a former junior high principal, liquor is a staple in my home. I would hate for you to send this stuff to someone who couldn't handle it!

I know a very sweet girl who's moving to san diego in a few weeks. said girl is driving with her nice boyfriend cross country and that boyfriend was thinking that champagne and chocolates would be a fantastic way to start off the road trip and celebrate the girl moving to be with her boy. This sweet boy (not as sweet as OJ, or his bread, but sweet nonetheless) has known and loved the filing jointly "team" since long before they were actually filing jointly. and he loves you both, you know.

  107. I'm in California, so guess I'll just have to settle for the chocolate and champagne *sigh* :)

  108. I need to get drunk - my "Ryan" isn't nearly as fun as yours! I am a fellow accountant, but my boss doesnt allow me to say monkeys ever and if I do she throws staplers at me! Seriously, I am stalking craigslist everyday! I wish I could write a blog and quit my job for real!!! So Jealous!

I would love to be entered into the champagne draw, but you said US. And I live in Canada.

Although I do have some friends in New York, I believe. So enter me into the roses draw, and I'll msg the two ladies that I know if I win. :-)

Congrats on having the guts to follow your dream! I am so looking forward to reading the list of to-do's from Ryan on this. I'm an engineer and I am also married to an engineer. you can imagine how dull and non risk taking we are.

I'd love to toast to you with the bubbly!

  113. Holy 117 comments and some of them may be double entries! I needs me some champagne. Congrats on the life changing decision! "You can't take it with you" right?

I would LOVE to have roses delivered to my best bud/college roommate in NYC, because she is a saint for continuing to be my friend even though I am horrible at returning phone calls and most other forms of communication. AND GUESS WHAT?? Last month, I quit the career path I'd been on for 10 years because my heart hadn't been feeling it for way too long. And life IS short. And now I am mostly a stay-at-home pet owner, and I'm thinking that some bubbly could really help jumpstart my brainstorming session for what I will do with the rest of my life.

I love your blog and I am super excited for your life change!! Congrats!

  115. I want in on both. I'll make it work!

I happen to think your giveaway is just as classy! Sign me up! I do live in la Florida, so no flowers for me...at least from Ode a la Rose. :)

As a fellow accountant, kudos...just, kudos. I nearly made it to that point this past year and just left, but I'm sticking it out one more year because I might be able to move overseas with my company and live in Europe for a few years, which would be AWESOME and totally worth it. I am really looking forward to reading your blog in the upcoming year.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Long-time stalker, first time poster. I just love your blog. Since I live in NC, I'd love some champagne and chocolate (although I can't wait until Ode a la Rose starts delivering outside NYC! Their arrangements are gorgeous.).

    ReplyDelete
  119. Good luck in your new life adventure. I look forward to stalking/reading about how everything unfolds.

I'd love to enter both contests. My BIL and future SIL (wedding in Sept.) are in NYC, and since I'm missing the shower today, roses would be a nice replacement, right? But I would be delighted to get the wine and bonbons for myself :)

Congrats on this exciting new chapter!! Long time stalker and I pretend that we're best friends (not in a creepy way just in a I know we would totally get along way), even made my long time boyfriend (7 1/2 Years, seriously, where's my ring!?) read your blog, he loves it too and always says how we are so similar and you'd fit right in with me and my crazy sorority sisters! Anyways booze giveaway please!! I have an interview for a therapist position next week and I'll hopefully be celebrating OR I'll need to drown my sorrows at being unemployed still :)

  125. I'm so happy for you!! I cannot wait to be reading your posts all the time. :]
I would like to be entered in your giveaway. Except, I do not live in New York. Nor am I twenty-one... I do love chocolates though.

Congratulations, and I wish you all the best.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Oh man! I don't live in NY anymore. I'm in the overly conservative state of Utah which I believe qualifies me even MORE for the "needs to get drunk" giveaway. And congrats and your liberation!!!

  127. Just discovered your blog. I need the laughs, chocolate and champagne. My previously healthy husband just died after a nine moth battle with brain cancer. Trying to figure out how to make myself laugh again, since I don't have him as a target of my humor. We were such great targets for each other.

    1. Hi Terry.

I rarely respond to Giveaway comments any longer since it just makes things confusing when I have to pick a winner. But I just wanted to say I was so sorry to hear your story and give you my condolences. Cancer just sucks.

    Conversation at my house:

Him: Do we have anything going on Tuesday?
    Me: Yes.
    Him: Um . . . what?
Me: OH MY GOD. I can't believe you don't remember.
    Him: Um . . . (looking embarrassed)
Me: We've been planning it for weeks! I don't believe you don't remember!!
    Him: Um . . . what?
Me: That thing! With you and me! *sigh and roll eyes*

Sometimes it works really well. :-)

Also I just watched a fly die in my lampshade. And then it came back to life. I'm pretty sure it is going to murder me in my sleep.

Also I could really use champagne and chocolate.

    <---- so very hungry

Your blog is the best ever. From a fellow accountant who plays the lottery in hopes that someday that she can sit around drinking champagne and eating chocolate, thank you.

  132. Sounds lovely! Though not in NYC, I'll take the other package ;-)

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous. And of course happy for you. I'm kinda glad I don't live in NYC, cause I would rather have the booze. Especially cause I have to go to work on Friday and you don't.

  138. Well, Congrats to you today since I saw on FB that you are officially a FT blogger!!! so, in my opinion, you should celebrate today & Thursday!! I would love a chance to be entered in both giveaways~Although I live in Buffalo, NY a very special nephew lives in NYC & his mommy deserves flowers delivered in an awesome box! Karen Carr

  139. I know of no one in NYC- but maybe the person who wins could locate a women's shelter, etc., that could take it as a donation if they don't know anyone, either? Just a thought. Though I doubt they take champagne, so I suppose I'll altruistically accept that. Ahem.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I think you should just have a week long celebration of awesomeness and cheese and Ryan should buy you some rubies and maybe a little christmas thrown in for good measure. (I still have winter decorations up, might as well leave them there from last year and start celebrating a little early lol) Congrats again on your move to full time blogger, can't wait to see more awesome posts!!! Wish I knew someone who lived in NYC to give flowers to but since I don't I'd love to be entered in the champagne and chocolates giveaway (which if I win will promptly be handed to my boyfriend to give back to me).

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'll take champagne and chocolates any day! Glad to be able to help you celebrate properly :)

  144. I found your blog via the Bloggess & love it.

I definitely need liquor & chocolate!

I'm still at my accounting job. Unlike you, I chose accounting by process of elimination using the list of majors available at my college.

  145. I found your blog way before the Bloggess thing, which gives me cred, right? It's truly an awesome blog and I will do my dangdest to increase your readsership via posting linky-links to friends, so that you will not have to return to work in a year. I would like to enter Drunk Giveaway.

  146. can i be entered in both drawings & then just randomly chose someone in new york to send the flowers to?? i think that would just be an awesome way to brighten someones day- maybe a single mom or an elderly person?

  148. I would like the booze and chocolates. Because chocolates are delicious and champagne is awesome. That's why, when I go to weddings, I make sure to drink all available champagne. Even it's my dad or sisters. They weren't going to drink it anyway!

  149. Sadly, I live nowhere near New York, but who doesn't like chocolate and booze? Congrats on quitting! I've done that happy dance myself before. It's glorious. Enjoy!

  152. So, I clicked on your blog's link from the Bloggess's site (because I needed more distractions from my awful, awful job, and I was done reading her post of the day) and I absolutely LOVE it. It's great when I stumble upon a fellow Chicagoan's blog (although I live in the burbs which, any Chicagoan will adamantly argue, is NOT Chicago) and can actually identify with the sights/sounds/weather/critters that they write about. And, lucky for me, I read quick enough to get through to THIS post just mere hours before the deadline. Seeing as though I am local (and, sadly, not in New York), I'd like to be entered for the booze-and-chocolate giveaway.

Congrats on your jailbreak! Can't wait to read the next year's worth of hilarious tales! :)

  153. I would like/need the chocs and bubbles please. I am still at my accounting job and bored out of my mind!

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm so glad you posted a reminder on facebook! I have been internet-less for so long then I forgot to enter when I finally got it 2 days ago!

I did have to steal my lap top from my 2 year old in order to enter, that's just the kind of parent I am...haha. "Excuse me son, I need to enter this contest for booze and chocolate. Max and Ruby will have to wait." Okay, maybe those weren't the exact words but you get the idea. ;)

So, I'm entering just the champagne and flowers. I will get all liquored up after baby bed time and catch up on the last 3 months of your blog. For real. I'm that exciting. :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. I'm so happy for you! #1 for you being happy and #2 for me having more to read! YAY LAUREN!

I'm not in NYC and I"m not sure if your fabulous service can deliver to my terrible state of PA with its terrible liquor laws, but if so I'd love to enter that contest!

Also, I have a best friend who we're pretty sure Teenage Dirtbag was written about, even though Wheatus didn't even know she existed. Our friend was in love with her, and she had a pretty crappy boyfriend with a gun AND an Iroc. Her name was not Noel, though.

  156. I'd love to drink to the New Year of Lauren! (Even if I don't win, I still think we should all have an online drinking party for you!)
