Sweet Home Chicago

Because our lives just can not get any crazier right now, this was the view from our balcony last night.

Oh Look.  That Building Is Totally On Fire.  Also, There Seems To Be A Giant Car Crash On The Corner.

And Now A Firefighter Is Climbing Up The Ladder.

And Now The Firefighter Is Climbing Down The Ladder.  WITH SOMEONE OVER HIS SHOULDER.
No worries though blogstalkers.  No one was seriously injured.

Because they were just filming the pilot for a new tv show based in Chicago.

It was awesome to watch.

There were EXPLOSIONS.

Here is what our view normally looks like.

I Love This City.

Now off to see The Hunger Games.

  1. That is one of the things I miss most about living in Chicago, all the crazy stuff that can happen all around you at a moments notice xD.

My sister lives in Lisle and she got to see quite a bit of the filming for The Dark Knight. It's amazing how many things are filmed there.

    1. So I am a super cool accountant and I know that (at least five years ago this was true) Chicago offers one of the better 'Film Tax Credits' to companies that choose to make a movie/tv show in the city.

So actually TONS of things are filmed here.

      And it's wonderful.

      Except for 3am explosions.

Also, The Dark Knight scared the shit out of me.

  2. Awesome. I was in LA for a filming of a Harrison Ford movie and my friend and I went walking down the street and she was pointing out all the "stores" that were built for the movie. I was all "man, I wanted to shop there!" I love movie magic!

    1. I never knew I loved movie magic until yesterday!!

But unfortunately I stopped loving it when there were 3am explosions.

And then I started loving it again when I found out Jesse Spencer is starring in the tv thing they are filming.

      Off to stalk!

    1. You are TOTALLY one of my best blogstalkers.

And OK is anyone else getting 503 errors? This is the first I've heard of it and I definitely want to make sure it gets fixed if it's a widespread thing.

And the movie. Oh My God. Katniss is such a badass.

Also Ryan was just reading over my shoulder and when I had typed "Katniss is such a ba.." He was like, are you going to say 'babe'? Because that would be true.

      Dumb Ryan.

I am so jealous of your view. I miss Chicago horribly, even though we lived in a shitty northern suburb. Oh, and the new Nightmare on Elm Street was filmed at my high school. Years after I was there, but still, it's my claim to fame.

    1. I fell down the stairs at my high school once. It's my unfortunate claim to high school fame. ::sigh::

I'm in Charlotte, NC and they filmed Hunger Games in and around our area. They used one of the buildings in Uptown Charlotte for some of the capitol city shots, and when they did productivity on our floor was at an all-time low of 0%. We were surprised the building we were in didn't collapse from all of us running at the same time to look out the window. It was awesome.

By the way -- love, love, love your blog. So wish I could express myself like you do, my writing skills are zero. I don't even like to post on Facebook because of my inability to express a complete thought.

    1. I am so jealous that of your seeing The Hunger Games filming. Like SO jealous.

      And thanks!

And your comment was totally a well-written, complete thought. I disagree with your opinion that your writing skills are zero.

And I am ALWAYS right. At least that's what I tell my husband.

Speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street...In NoES 4, Freddy turned one of the characters into a cockroach. Anybody remember that scene? I went to high school with that girl. She was also on that show "Just the Ten of Us" and briefly dated Kirk Cameron. It's kind of fun throwing around this kind of information! :)
PS: we saw The Hunger Games in IMAX this weekend, it was pretty awesome!!

  8. My husband and teenager are going away this weekend. I will have the house and everything (TV) to myself! I am going to see the Hunger Games and the Julia Roberts movie, (just because I like her so much). Maybe even one after the other. Strange combo but ahhh the freedom!
I was freaking about the fire being that close and you being up so high! HA! Glad it was a show being filmed.

    1. Don't get me wrong, I love the crap out of my husband, but weekends he's away, are perfectly lovely sometimes. I watch terrible television and take entirely too many naps. I envy you this weekend.

And yep, looked bad, but everything was totally under control..just your everyday middle of the night tv explosions.

  9. I remember when Holy Name caught fire last year. I woke up to the sirens and thought, wow that sounds close, but promptly forgot about them and went back to sleep. A couple of hours later, I walked out the front door and wondered why it was raining. It took my foggy morning brain a full minute to figure out that it wasn't rain but gushing water from the hundreds of fire hoses surrounding the church.

    1. I live REALLY close to Holy Name (sounds like you do too). I literally sat on my balcony and watched it burn for three hours starting at five AM. It was so very sad, but eerily magnificent.
